I wanted to make a grand entrance in this world for everyone involved and boy did I! Mommy went in for her 38-week check-up - just a routine check-up, no biggie. Mommy's blood pressure was high, so they decided to do a non-stress test where they were monitoring my heartbeat. They didn't like what they saw on the non-stress test at the doctor's office, so they sent Mommy to the hospital to have one done. The one at the hospital showed that when Mommy was contracting my heart rate was dropping. The doctor then told Mommy and Daddy that they were going to have a baby that night by a scheduled c-section. At that point, Daddy called the family to let them know to head to the hospital.
Well, the scheduled c-section turned into an emergency one when my heart rate began dropping while Mommy was hooked up to a fetal heart rate monitor without any contractions. At one point the nurses lost my heart rate. They immediately took Mommy to the OR and did an emergency c-section delivery, even Daddy wasn't allowed in. Mommy was completely under anesthesia due to the emergency situation. So, unfortunately, there wasn't a "Surprise, it's a boy" for my parents...they were more concerned that everyone turned out perfectly healthy. After much anxiety, the Pediatrician came out of the OR and told Daddy that his little one was a boy and that Mommy was OK. What a relief that came over Daddy, as you can imagine he was a wreck. As he told later Mommy, he didn't know whether to cry, pray, or just sit there, so he did all of the above...it was the longest 30 minutes of his life!
I was born at 8:10pm and weighed 6 lbs 10 oz. I measured up at 19.5 inches long and let me tell you, I have very BIG feet! Daddy was the first to meet me; he gave me my first bath and witnessed my first shot...I hate needles already! Papaw Belcher also witnessed the first shot! After a couple of hours in the recovery room, Mommy finally got to meet me! I got to meet my Great Grandma, Great Aunts/Uncles, Papaw Belcher, and cousins before I finally got to see Mommy. After Mommy left the recovery room they wheeled her by the nursery to see Daddy and I then off to our hospital room. We had lots of visitors in the hospital - I got to meet so many new people! I also got to meet my Uncle Forrest and Nonna Belcher - they got there late that night, as they had a long drive. And, Uncle Forrest had to stop by Mommy and Daddy's house to get their packed bag, as they didn't have it with them! Uncle Forrest brought me a bib to the hospital to wear; I guess he thought I was going to start on solid foods right away! All and all the first night of my life was a VERY long one, as my relatives didn't leave until 4 am then the doctors started coming in around 6 am! Everyone was just prepping Mommy for my feeding hours! Enjoy the pictures of my first few days at the hospital!
